Life After Treatment

The Bridge Between Treatment and Independent Living

Rehab gives you the tools. Sober living gives you the space to use them. Rooted Co-Living provides structured recovery housing where you can practice sobriety in the real world — with peer support, accountability, and a community that has your back.

Why Sober Living Matters

Why Sober Living After Rehab Makes a Difference

Completing a treatment program is a major accomplishment, but it is also one of the most vulnerable moments in recovery. Returning directly to old environments, old routines, and old associations is one of the leading causes of early relapse.

Sober living provides a critical middle step. Instead of going from the highly controlled environment of treatment to complete independence overnight, you transition to a structured home where sobriety is the norm, peers support your recovery, and daily routines reinforce the skills you learned in treatment.

At Rooted Co-Living, we operate as a NARR structured recovery residence. That means our homes have clear expectations — house meetings, random drug testing, curfew, and accountability — while still giving you the freedom to work, attend outpatient treatment, and build the independent life you are working toward.

The Evidence for Sober Living After Treatment

Research supports what our guests experience every day: structured recovery housing dramatically improves outcomes.

2x

People in sober living are twice as likely to remain abstinent at 18 months compared to those who go directly home after treatment

40-60%

Estimated relapse rate for substance use disorders — similar to other chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension

6+ months

Longer stays in structured recovery housing are associated with better employment, lower substance use, and fewer arrests

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is sober living recommended after rehab?

Research consistently shows that individuals who transition to a structured sober living environment after treatment have significantly better outcomes than those who return directly to their previous living situation. Sober living provides the daily structure, peer accountability, and gradual reintroduction to independent living that protects against early relapse.

How long do most guests stay in sober living after treatment?

There is no fixed timeline. Some guests stay for 90 days, others for 6 months or longer. Recovery is personal, and we support each guest for as long as they need. The goal is to leave when you have built a stable foundation — employment, housing plan, strong recovery network — not to rush the process.

Is Rooted Co-Living a treatment center?

No. We are a structured recovery residence, not a treatment facility. Guests are expected to attend their own outpatient treatment or recovery program. We provide the stable housing, peer support, and life skills that complement your treatment — not replace it.

Can my treatment center refer me directly to Rooted?

Yes. We regularly work with treatment centers, hospitals, and case managers to coordinate transitions. Your treatment team can contact us at (949) 565-5285 or submit a referral through our contact page. We review applications within 2-3 business days.
